Sprint to Spring With Cold Weather Runs

Monday, February 6, 2023 | 2 min read

Last week, Punxsutawney Phil said we can expect six more weeks of winter. This is not the news we wanted to hear. But don't despair; winter running can be a great way to stay active and get some much-needed outdoor time.

But why, though? Am I right?

Well, running in cold weather can help improve your circulation, reduce muscle soreness, and increase your core temperature. Running in snowy conditions can also help to improve balance and agility, as well as help to build strength. Additionally, running in the snow can be a great way to enjoy the wintery scenery and might even help defend against seasonal depression.

Play it safe.

Add custom cardio workouts in Open Bar To safely enjoy winter running, warm up properly with dynamic stretches and consider light jogging in place before you even venture outdoors. Arm circles and leg swings are great too. You want to get moving and ready your heart to work, above all else.

Remember to dress appropriately for cold weather running. Layers are your friend and help keep your body warm and protect you from the elements.

Cold weather runs aren't likely good candidates for breaking records, but they'll keep you conditioned and ready for a Spring 5k! 😜

We'd suggest picking a reliable route close to home and giving it a go once a week. Log the run in Open Bar and see how much you can improve that run while we wait for winter to get out of here.

Thanks a ton, Phil! Our fitness thanks you.
